Sea Island golfers fill in for 'opposite-field' event
Normally, theres an opposite-field event during this weeks World Golf Championship, but this season the Puerto Rico Open will be played opposite the WGC-Dell Match Play in a few weeks, so if you arent among the 77 players in the field in Mexico there are few competitive options.That is unless youre one of the dozen or so professionals who call Sea Island (Ga.) Resort home.On Thursday, officials at Sea Island, which hosts the PGA Tours RSM Classic each fall, organized a team match that included Tour winners, up-and-coming players and those working to make it to the big leagues.The field included Harris English, Hudson Swafford, Brian Harman, Patton Kizzire, Bobby Wyatt, Corey Whitsett and J.T. Poston, who posted the days best round (64) and was a perfect 3-0 paired with English.The event, which was organized to keep players competitive during an off week, featured front- and back-nine matches between four teams for a total of 12 points.The team that included English, Swafford and Whitsett which was led by their manager Jeremy Elliott with Lagardere Sports won the competition, 9-3.
