Nantz on Romo: 'He's going to play in a Tour event'

According to Jim Nantz, golf fans can expect to see Tony Romo's name on a PGA Tour leaderboard soon - and not just in the pro-am standings.Nantz and Romo just completed their first season together as booth partners on CBS' coverage of NFL football, and the longtime broadcaster told Golf.com that Romo is expected to receive a tournament exemption in the coming weeks."He's going to play in a Tour event," Nantz said. "I'm not going to make that announcement for him right now, but he's going to get an exemption in the next, let's just say two months. So he's going to put it out there on the line."Romo has long been listed as a scratch golfer, and he attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open last summer but failed to advance after a 3-over 75. Nantz described Romo as a "golf fanatic" who even occasionally brings a putter with him into the booth during NFL games.Should Romo receive an exemption, he would follow in the footsteps of Steph Curry who missed the cut on a sponsor invite in August at the Web.com Tour's Ellie Mae Classic. Country music star Jake Owen has also received a sponsor invite into a Web.com Tour event this May.Nantz also downplayed rumors that Romo might soon be joining the CBS golf team's tournament coverage."That's not confirmed," Nantz said. "There's been a lot of talk swirling that he would come join the CBS Golf crew, but nothing on that that's final right now."
