Fore Things: DJ (4) will 'try' to catch Tiger's 18 WGCs

MEXICO CITY Dustin Johnson held off challenges by Jon Rahm and Tommy Fleetwood to win the WGC-Mexico Championship and build his lead in the Official Golf World Ranking. But that was just a part of what the world No. 1 accomplished on Sunday. Here are Fore Things to know from Sunday:1. Johnsons victory in Mexico was his fourth at a World Golf Championship, moving him to second on the all-time WGC list behind Tiger Woods who has 18 victories at the world events. Asked if he thought he could catch Woods in the WGC race, DJ shrugged. He has a lot, but Im going to try, he said.2. Rory McIlroy will consider his week in Mexico a mixed bag, with his tie for seventh probably better than he expected after being sideline with a rib injury for the last six weeks. But after opening with rounds of 68-65, it could have been much better. All in all, first week back, it's OK, he said. But being two ahead going into the weekend, obviously disappointed with the finish I had.

3. Johnson called his 54-degree wedge shot from a funky lie in a fairway bunker on the 72nd hole dinky, but the 127-yard shot landed 18 feet from the hole and he easily two-putted for his second victory of 2017. He called the clutch approach his best shot of the week. It was pretty sporty. I definitely dont want to hit it again, he smiled.4. Phil Mickelson said he was disappointed with his third-round 68, a round that included just four hit fairways. So what did he think of his closing 71 that dropped him into a tie for seventh place? This has been a good week to build off of, he said. I hit a lot of good shots, I drove it a lot better today, especially the back nine. I know what I'm supposed to do, I know what I'm trying to do, and when I do it, I'm able to execute and play golf at the level I want.

All golfers make triple bogeys, even the best golfers in the world. Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods made (and make) triple bogeys. But for the best golfers, triple bogey is a bad score. A single triple on a pro golfer's scorecard can be overcome; but two in the same round usually means a poor overall score for that golfer.
