Day wary of newly drivable par-4 at Sawgrass

ORLANDO, Fla. Jason Day gave his approval Wednesday to the new changes at TPC Sawgrass that he says make the tournament feel even more like a major championship.Among the most dramatic changes to the course, which reopened last November, was adding a body of water in between the sixth and seventh holes and making the 12th a drivable par 4 with plenty of risk and reward. The 12th will play about 300 yards from the forward tee, but there is a bunker that runs down the left side of the hole, a creek even farther left and a small bailout area right with humps and bumps.

Day, the defending Players champion, played the course last week during media day.Everyones talking about 12, he said, and how many guys are going to go for it or not. Its going to be interesting. Im not too sure. Thats a pretty difficult hole, and where they have us teed up, I think right is worse off than missing it left, even though there is a hazard. If you miss it left and it bounces down into the hazard, you can just drop it and then try to get up and down (for par). But if you miss it right with firm, fast conditions, and youre in the rough and you try to hit it over that little pot bunker, you can get it running away pretty quick and it can go in the water. So you bring bogey, double bogey if you go right. Its the first major renovation to the home of The Players in 10 years.
